Everyone is welcome in the library, whether you're a member of the University, a visitor from another institution, or a member of the public.
The main Library on Campus West consists of the Morrell, the Fairhurst and the Burton, and we have well over 1,000 single-and-group study spaces across our sites. These are divided into zones for different studying styles, with a blended approach of bookable and non-bookable spaces.
Whether you are brand new to York or you've been here for years, the library can be a lot to take in. We've got lots of guides to get you started.

The first thing I told my friends is, just go into the library. Don't wait for anything! Don't wait for someone to guide you don't wait for anything: just go. People don't realise the depth of resources the Library has.

We recently conducted a research project with postgraduate researchers to find out more about how you identify library resources and use our tools and services. Read on for a summary of what we found and our proposed actions.

The Morrell Library entrance area will be redeveloped over the Summer, as part of the University’s long term investment in campus infrastructure. The refurbishment will provide more study spaces and a more welcoming, modern look and feel. The main library is open 24 hours a day for the four weeks of the exam period. But 24/7 opening doesn't mean 24/7 studying!
